Catherine Kautsky c/o 1968 @ UCHS for 50 Year Reunion (October 2018)
While the project founder, Rod Milam, was revisiting University City High School as part of his 30-year reunion with the class of 1988, the class of 1968 was also in the building as part of their own 50-year reunion. He knew that he didn't have too many people from that part of the 1960s, so he broke off from his part of the reunion in the new library and tried to meet up with the '68 group down in the cafeteria.
There he heard about a concert french horn player, Luther Thomas, who passed away about nine years prior. But he also met the proud and talented U. Citian pictured here, Catherine Kautsky (UCHS c/o 1968). She's an accomplished pianist who serves as Professor of Music at Lawrence University in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Kautsky, like so many other musicians in the project, has a résumé that's too long to fully list; however, in addition to teaching at the university since 1987 (with a 6 year hiatus in there) she's performed on 5 continents, lived and worked in Paris, and has just come out with a book "Debussy's Paris".
We hope to get a chance to go up to Wisconsin one day for a couple of other U. City musicians and certainly to bring Cathy and the class of 1968 onto the project. Both UCHS '68 and '88 were having a good weekend along with some of their very talented classmates.
