Jeremy Schonfeld @ the Sounding The Chord Fundraiser in Brooklyn (October 2011)
Singer/Songwriter/Composer Jeremy Schonfeld (Flynn Park c/o 1981 & 1 year at Brittany Woods) was in fine form on this November 2011 evening performing at Huckleberry Bar in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York City for a fundraiser for the docuemtnary project. Jeremy had just released his newest album "Iron & Coal" shortly before this gathering, and he sang a couple of songs from that and from the rest of his catalog.

Rosalie Will Boxt @ Temple Emanuel in Kensington, MD (December 2011)
We had the chance to interview Rosalie Will Boxt (UCHS c/o 1991) as she took a break from her duties as Cantor at her synagogue Temple Emanuel in Kensington, Maryland. This is a not too frequent break in the action that Rosalie has every day and every week. When she's not tending to her congregation in Maryland, she often travels and plays/sings with other Jewish groups around the country. Rosalie sang for us in this shot in the main sancuary of the Temple.

Sandy Weltman @ His Home In St. Louis (September 2011)
We luckily caught up with the talented U. Citian Sandy Weltman at his home in St. Louis when we were back in St. Louis in September of 2011 to record the 1st annual U. City Jazz Festival and some other interviews for this project. During our brief interview we saw first hand some of the diverse set of musicial skills and styles that Sandy has mastered. From the banjo, an assortment of drums, and his current favorite the harmonica, Sandy has lent his talents and love of music to other artists as Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Cassandra Wilson, and another former U. City resident, the late John Hartford.

Kevin Batchelor Recording with Naughty By Nature (August 2011)
This is a picture of trumpeter/singer Kevin Batchelor (UCHS c/o 1979) in a recording studio in the Union Square neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City as he recorded some parts of songs that were to be used in an anniversary remix of some of the classic songs of the 1990s hip hop group Naughty By Nature.
At the time of this shoot, Kevin was less than 8 hours off of an 11 hour flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina where he'd spent some time touring the country with The Skatalites, one of many Jamaican groups that Kevin has played with over the years (including Steel Pulse). Kevin also has a couple of his own albums that he has released with his group Grand Concourse where he serves as the lead vocalist and trumpet player.

Bassist and U. City native Christopher Thomas (UCHS c/o 1988) let us come into a warm up session at the legendary Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York in April of 2011 as he was in town doing a multiple night stand with drummer Brian Blade and The Brian Blade Fellowship. This wasn't the first time for Chris to be in the Vanguard with Brian Blade. They both appeared as part of saxaphonist Joshua Redman band on the album Joshua Redman Live At The Village Vanguard along with U. City pianist Peter Martin.

Sara Lucas On Electric Guitar At Home in Brooklyn (March 2012)
We caught up with the mulitfacited singer/guitarist Sara Lucas (UCHS c/o 1998) in her home in Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York in March of 2012 as she was just finishing up the last touches of the new album by her group Callers entitled Reviver. Sara puts the vocal skills that she began to use in University City and her guitar skills she developed in New Orleans and Rhode Island in fronting Callers. She gave us a great interview and a sample of some her skills, as you can see in this picture.

Todd Williams & Peter Martin @ Dizzy's Club/Jazz At Lincoln Center (April 2012)
This is a shot of pianist Peter Martin (UCHS c/o 1987/8) and saxaphonist Todd Williams (UCHS c/o 1985) while they were playing with the Hernlin Riley Quartet at Dizzy's Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center right at Columbus Circle in Manhattan, New York City, New York (at the southeast corner of Central Park in the Time Warner Center). This was described as sort of a reunion band for people that had once been part of the Jazz At Lincoln Center Band as led by Wynton Marsalis, which both Peter and Tood have played in. Todd and Peter have had more than a passing relationship with the Marsalis family. Both have played with Wynton and other family members in their jazz careers. Todd actually started playing with Wynton very shortly after he graduated from U. City High School.

Kaoru (UCHS c/o 1993) plays the large drum in the center of the frame along with members of his Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Ensemble. This performance of the song "Run The World" by Beyonce had vocals by opera singer Alicia Hall Moran and was part of a performance installation "Bleed: Alicia Hall Moran & Jason Moran" at The Whitney Museum on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City.

Charles Beason (DJ Charlie Chan Soprano) @ Cuetopia II (March 2014)
DJ Charlie Chan Soprano is from the U. City class of 1988 and has been behind the 1s and 2s since before 1984 when he DJed the class' freshman dance in the high school cafeteria. As of this shot he is now the official, personal DJ of hip-hop pioneer and legend DMC of Run-DMC and presided over the first performance of the reconstituted Run-DMC since the death of the original DJ JamMaster Jay in Philadelphia, PA in 2013. He's DJed for countless members of hip hop royalty in his multi-decade career (including Queen Latifah and LL Cool J) and shows no signs of slowing down.

John Bolduan Performance @ The Focal Point Maplewood, MO (March 2014)
We caught up with John Bolduan once again when he came back to St. Louis from his current home in Bilbao, Spain. Just before the end of his 3 week trip back stateside, he put on a concert at The Focal Point in downtown Maplewood, Missouri of some of his own music, folk standards, and traditional Irish and Old-time music with Marie Halley, of the group Clabber Alley, and fiddler and winner of the 2013 John Hartford Memorial Fiddle Contest, Colin Blair of the group The Root Diggers. This shot was from early on in the show when John was the whole show and showing off some fancy fingerwork.

Rollyn Moore at The Inspot Lounge in St. Louis, MO (March 2014)
UCHS c/o 1988's Rollyn Moore has a story that follows the same path of more than one person in this project; he's come to be a professional musician later in life. While he was in school in the U. City system, he didn't participate in the choir or band, but he had an interest in music. After high school and many years of being a pastor and a minister of music, we caught him as he made his headlining debut of more secular/spiritual music at The InSpot Lounge on the east end of The Loop in St. Louis.

During the 3 Year Anniversary Month for the Start of Shooting - 6 Musicians
Without really trying or intending to, we happened to be in the St. Louis area for all of the month of March in 2014. And in between all of the normal things that we had to do, we found outselves out and about talking, meeting, and photographing 6 working musicians for the project: Linda (Seiferth) Gurney, Steve Hoover, Matt Davis, Charles Beason (DJ Charlie Chan Soprano), John Bolduan, and Rollyn Moore. We were blown away by the talent that all of these performers possessed and displayed all all of these venues. It was great way to mark this next step in the process of finding as many people as possible to keep the recording of U. City musical history rolling.

UCHS c/o 1975's Jeff Anderson is well known around the St. Louis area as a saxophonist and was due to take the stage at Jazz at the Bistro in Grand Center in about a month. But we caught up with him at a small bar/club in North County called Toast Time where they have a bit of a free jam every Sunday afternoon. We showed up and Jeff decided to take a turn at the bass while another well known tenor sax player, Freddie Washington, was blowing the horn in front of the band.

Ambra Robinson (UCHS c/o 2003) and Andrew Franklin (UCHS c/o 2004) both performed some great sets in St. Louis' R&B and Funk scene in May and June of 2014.

Andrew Franklin (UCHS c/o 2004) taking a funky bass solo with his group "Big Brother Thunder & The Master Blasters" at a spot called "Atomic Cowboy" in The Grove section of the city of St. Louis. The group was just coming off winning the Best Soul/Funk Band in St. Louis award by the local indie/arts newspaper The Riverfront Times and announced on stage this evening that they'd be playing the 2014 LouFest, sharing the bill with a reunified Outkast and other big touring bands.
